Jessica Tinklenberg deVega, assistant professor of religious studies at Morningside College, is coauthor of the recently published book “All You Wanted to Know, But Didn’t Think You Could Ask: Religions, Cults, and Popular Beliefs.”
The book is a compendium of short chapters on 40 different world religions and belief systems. It is written for upper-level high school and early college students.
Tinklenberg deVega wrote the book with Christine Ortega Gaurkee, an instructor in Eastern religions at Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, Fla. It is available at the Morningside College Bookstore.
“I hope the book will offer clear and reliable information about the basic beliefs, values, texts and history of major world religions,” Tinklenberg deVega said. “I further hope that it will correct common misconceptions, especially about Islam, Eastern religions, and new religions commonly called ‘cults.’”
Tinklenberg deVega joined the Morningside faculty in 2007, and she received a Sharon Walker Faculty Excellence Award from the college in 2009. She has a doctorate in religions of Western antiquity from Florida State University in Tallahassee.
