Morningside College will welcome first-year students to campus during orientation activities scheduled from Saturday, August 17, through Tuesday, August 20. Fall semester classes for all Morningside students begin Wednesday, August 21.
Freshmen will move into residence halls from 8 a.m. to noon on August 17. Other events scheduled during the day include an orientation lunch in the Olsen Student Center, a welcome to first-year seminar, distribution of notebook computers, a picnic supper in Olsen Student Center, and a magic show in the Buhler Outdoor Performance Center.
According to Shari Benson, Morningside’s director of new students, the orientation schedule is designed to help students make the transition to college life.
“The activities we have planned for Morningside’s Class of 2017 will make it easier for students to meet each other and become better acquainted with our campus,” Benson said. “By the end of orientation, they will be ready to successfully start their first year of classes at Morningside.”
Events scheduled for Sunday, August 18, include a worship service in the Buhler Outdoor Performance Center, brunch in the Olsen Student Center, a “Morningside Olympics” competition and a “Welcome to Morningside” picnic in the Olsen Student Center.
Highlights for Monday, August 20, include an academic majors extravaganza, an activities fair, and a convocation.
On Tuesday, August 20, students will meet in assigned classrooms for their first-year seminar class.
