The John Bowitz Retrospective Art Exhibit is on display through Oct. 13 in the Eppley and Levitt art galleries, which are located in the lobby of the Eppley Fine Arts Building, 3625 Garretson Ave., on the Morningside College campus.
The exhibit showcases Bowitz’s work as a creative artist over a 44-year period and features a variety of media, including collage, oil, watercolor, acrylic, digital manipulation, graphite, dye pens, colored inks and colored pencils. Some of the work represents his collaboration with Sioux City artist Shannon Sargent, who co-curated the exhibit.
A reception for Bowitz is scheduled on Oct. 11 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. in the Eppley Fine Arts Building lobby.
Bowitz, who will retire in January 2014, has taught art at Morningside for 36 years and has served as chair of the art department for the past 20 years. Before joining Morningside in 1977, Bowitz was chair of the fine arts division at Ottumwa (Iowa) Heights College. He received his MFA and MS from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Until October 1, access to the Eppley and Levitt galleries is available only from the MacCollin Classroom Building located on the east side of the Eppley Fine Arts Building.
