Trumpeter David Bohnert and organist Philip Pfaltzgraff will present a guest recital at Morningside College at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave.
The recital will feature composers such as Bach, Widor, Debussy and Hovhaness.
Bohnert is professor of music and director of bands at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. An active performer, he plays regularly with A Touch of Brass, the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and Municipal Band, in addition to maintaining an active solo recital schedule. He recently performed at the International Trumpet Guild convention and the American Guild of Organists conference. He is on the recording reviewing staff for the journal of the International Trumpet Guild. He has a doctorate in trumpet performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music.
Pfaltzgraff is a staff accompanist at Wayne State College. In addition to his collaborative piano responsibilities at Wayne State, he has continued to pursue the field of musical composition and arranging. He has written several compositions that have been performed by college choirs. He also has recorded a series of seasonal and thematic solo CDs on the piano and organ under the title of “Specializing in Improvisation.” Pfaltzgraff has master’s degrees in organ performance and music education from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant.
