Morningside College to present Homecoming concert

The Morningside College Music Department will present a Homecoming concert at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, with a pre-concert performance by the music department’s Faculty Jazz Combo at 11:10 a.m. The concert will take place at the Buhler Performance Center, 3625 Garretson Ave., on the Morningside campus. This event is free and open to the public.

The Faculty Jazz Combo will feature Justin Kisor, a Sioux City native and North High School graduate, who is serving as the adjunct trumpet instructor for Morningside College.

Other groups that will be performing at the concert are Morningside College Choir, Eclectix Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Morningside Jazz Band, Singing Men of Morningside, Bel Canto Women’s Choir, and Morningside Outdoor Band (MOB). Faculty members Tim Watson, Jill Wilson, Tony Hutchins and Wilson Wise will direct the ensembles.

The concert will feature selections such as “Gaudete Omnes” by Jan Sweelinck, “Fields of Gold” by Sting, “Easy Groove” by Bob Mintzer, a traditional spiritual titled “Elijah and Joshua,” a Brazilian folk song titled “Eu u Voce,” the Morningside fight song and traditional pep tunes, “Blue Monk” by Thelonious Monk, and “Rhythm Changes” by Ira and George Gershwin.
