Morningside To Hold Summer Basketball Camp

Morningside College will hold a boys basketball individual day camp from Monday through Thursday, June 10-13, in the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center.


The camp is for boys who will be in grades K-8 during the 2013-14 school year. Campers will be put into groups according to their age and ability levels. The morning session for grades K-4 will meet from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The afternoon session for grades 5-8 will meet from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.


The camp will feature instruction from Morningside men’s basketball head coach Jim Sykes as well as Mustang assistant coaches and players. The camp will include basketball instruction, contests, awards, and daily games. All campers will receive a camp T-shirt and fundamental drill workouts.


The camp director is Morningside head men’s basketball coach Jim Sykes. Sykes guided the Mustangs to back-to-back Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) regular season championships in 2008 and 2009 and has led Morningside to three NAIA Division II National Tournament appearances since 2006.


The registration fee is $100. A $5 discount will be given to campers who register by June 1. A car pool rate of $80 per camper will apply to any group of three or more campers who travel together.


Official registration will be Monday, June 10, at 8:30 a.m. for the morning session and noon for the afternoon session.
