Mustangs Place Three On All-GPAC Team
Mustangs Finish 3rd In Final GPAC Standings

Kelsey Nelson, a junior from Rockford, Iowa, led Morningside College’s women’s golf team with an 18-hole scoring average of 88.3 strokes during the 2012-13 season.
Nelson was a model of consistency as she paced the Mustangs with an 83.3-stroke average in the fall and was second on the team with an 88.4-stroke average during the spring campaign. She had the Mustangs’ top individual score during the spring season with an 82 at Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Qualifier #4 held April 26 at Two Rivers Golf Club in Dakota Dunes, S.D.
Erin Hedlund, a senior from Hinton, Iowa, had the Mustangs’ top scoring average during the spring season at 87.6 and had a combined scoring average of 89.7 over the fall and spring seasons to rank second on the team. Hedlund had the Mustangs’ top individual score of the fall season with an 80 to earn runner-up medalist honors at the Morningside Invitational on Sept. 7 at Green Valley Golf Course.
Morningside finished third in the final GPAC team standings compiled from the four GPAC Qualifier tournaments held over the fall and spring seasons. The Mustangs had a four-round total of 1,441 to finish 19 strokes out of second place behind Northwestern College.
The Mustangs had two players finish among the top 10 individuals in the GPAC Qualifier scoring. Nelson finished sixth with a 350, while Cameron Oakley, a junior from Sioux City, was right behind in seventh place with a 351.

Morningside College has three players named to the 2012-13 All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Golf Team as selected by the league’s head coaches.
The Mustangs’ all-conference selections are Kelsey Nelson, a junior from Rockford, Ill.; Cameron Oakley, a junior from Sioux City; and Erin Hedlund, a senior from Hinton, Iowa.
Oakley and Hedlund are repeat selection from last year’s All-GPAC team. Oakley made the All-GPAC team for the third year in a row.
Nelson was the Mustangs’ top finisher in the combined scoring from this year’s four GPAC Qualifier tournaments when she finished sixth in the final individual standings with a 350. She led the Mustangs with an 88.3-stroke scoring average during the fall season and averaged 88.4 in the spring to finish the year with a combined average of 88.3 to lead the team.
Oakley had averages of 90.0 in the fall and 91.3 in the spring for a combined average of 90.4. She finished seventh in the final GPAC Qualifier standings with a 351.
Hedlund led the Mustangs with an 87.6-stroke scoring average in the spring. She had a 91.1 average in the fall to finish the year second on the team with a combined average of 89.7. Hedlund finished 12th in the final GPAC Qualifier scoring with a 361.
Morningside finished third in the final GPAC standings with a team score of 1441 in the four GPAC Qualifier tournaments for a 24-stroke margin over fourth place Nebraska Wesleyan University.

Morningside finished third in the final 2012-13 GPAC women’s golf standings after the league’s teams wrapped up the conference campaign when GPAC Qualifier tourneys #3 and #4 were played April 26 at Two Rivers Golf Course in Dakota Dunes, S.D.
The Mustangs finished with a combined score of 1441 from the four GPAC Qualifier tourneys to finish behind team champion Dakota Wesleyan (1351) and runner-up Northwestern (1422).
The season’s final GPAC Qualifier was changed to a 36-hole event after adverse weather conditions wiped out GPAC Qualifier #3’s original date of April 9 in Hastings, Neb.
The Mustangs finished fourth in Friday’s opening round GPAC Qualifier #3 with a 366 to put them five strokes out of third place behind Nebraska Wesleyan.
Erin Hedlund had the Mustangs’ top individual score in GPAC Qualifier #3 with an 87 for the ninth best score in the field. Kelsey Nelson was right behind with an 88 and Cameron Oakley also broke 90 with an 89.
Morningside improved its score to a 345 in closing round GPAC Qualifier #4 to finish second behind Dakota Wesleyan’s 327.
The play of Kelsey Nelson and Sarah Davy was instrumental in the Mustangs’ finish. Nelson carded one of the best scores of her Morningside career with an 82 to finish third in the individual standings, while Davy also gave the Mustangs’ one of the top scores of her career with an 87 to finish in 10th place. The Mustangs completed their team score with 88s from Oakley and Hedlund.
Nelson finished sixth in the individual standings for the combined four tournaments scoring with a 350, while Oakley was right behind in seventh place with a 351.
