Reimann Breaks Morningside Shutout Record During 2012 Season

Felicia Reimann, a junior goal keeper from Rapid City, S.D., broke the Morningside College record for shutouts in a season during the Mustangs’ 2012 women’s soccer campaign.


Reimann had 8.7 shutouts to break the former Morningside record of 8.2 shutouts by Kelly Berst during the 2007 campaign. Reimann has 9.7 shutouts for her career for the second highest total in Morningside history.


Morningside had a 10-6-4 record to set a school record with four ties in a season, breaking the former record of three ties when the Mustangs had a 6-10-3 mark in the 2004 season.


Amy Samuelson, a freshman forward from Sioux City, tied a Morningside single-match record when she dealt three assists in the Mustangs’ 5-2 victory against AIB College of Business on Sept. 13.


Aside from her school-record 8.7 shutouts, Reimann had a 9-6-4 record with 113 saves and a goals against average of 1.25 goals per game. Reimann’s 1.25 goals against average was the third best single-season mark in Morningside history, while her 113 saves and nine goal keeper wins ranked fourth among the Mustangs’ all-time bests. She ranks fourth in the Morningside annals with 181 career saves and fifth with 10 career goal keeper victories.

The Mustangs’ leading scorer this season was Kelsey Niles, a junior midfielder from Sioux City, who tallied seven goals and a team-high seven assists for 21 points. She provided the game winning goal in three of the Mustangs’ victories for the 10th highest single-season game-winning goal total in Morningside history. Niles has dealt 12 assists during her Morningside career for the 10th highest total in Morningside history. She is sixth in Morningside history with four career game winning goals.


Samuelson and Miranda Gonka, a sophomore forward from Columbus, Neb., also had three game winning goals to share the team leadership with Niles.
Gonka led the Mustangs with 10 goals and was their second leading scorer with 20 points. She is the 10th leading goal scorer in Morningside history with 10 career goals.


Jamie Swotek, a senior defender from Council Bluffs, Iowa, dealt three assists during her senior campaign to finish her career with 14 assists for the ninth highest total in Morningside history.


Morningside posted a 10-6-4 record during the 2012 season and finished fifth in the GPAC standings with a 5-3-2 record. The Mustangs reached the semifinals of the GPAC’s post-season tournament, where they lost 3-0 against Hastings College.

 

Five Morningside Athletes Named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes

Five Morningside women's soccer players have been named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.


The Mustangs’ Daktronics-NAIA Women's Soccer Scholar-Athletes are:


Lydia Bienlien, a senior defender from Glenwood, Iowa, who has a 3.99 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with majors in biology and chemistry.


Jazmine Dirks, a junior defender from Carroll, Iowa, who has a 3.76 cumulative GPA with majors in mass communication and photography.


Kalee Gross, a junior midfielder from Omaha, Neb., who has a 3.98 cumulative GPA with majors in biology and general psychology.


Kelsey Niles, a junior midfielder
from Sioux City, who has a 3.50 cumulative GPA with a major in nursing.


Breanna Turner, a junior defender from Aurora, Colo., who has a 3.51 cumulative GPA with a major in nursing.


Student-athletes must be of at least junior academic status and have a minimum GPA of 3.50 in order to be eligible for Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.

Mustangs Place Two Players On All-GPAC Second-Team

Hope Foreman and Breanna Turner have been named to the second team of the 2012 All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Soccer selections as picked by the league’s head coaches.


Foreman, a sophomore defender from Glenwood, Iowa, was a defensive standout for a Morningside team that limited its opposition to averages of 1.24 goals and 13.9 shots per game. The Mustangs shut out nine of their opponents and allowed one goal or less in 13 of their 20 contests. Aside from her defensive exploits, Foreman also contributed one point to the Mustangs’ offensive attack with an assist against Doane College on Sept. 29.

Turner, a sophomore midfielder from Aurora, Colo., was the Mustangs’ fourth leading scorer with four goals and one assist for nine points. She scored the game winning goal in the Mustangs 2-0 victory against Nebraska Wesleyan University on Oct. 20.


In addition to their two second-team selections, the Mustangs’ Felicia Reimann and Jamie Swotek received honorable mention All-GPAC recognition.

Reimann, a junior goal keeper from Rapid City, S.D., had a 9-6-4 record with 113 saves, a school-record 8.7 shutouts, and a goals against average of 1.25 goals per game. Reimann broke the former Morningside record of 8.2 shutouts in a season set by Kelly Berst in 2007. Reimann had three consecutive shutouts from Oct. 2 to Oct. 10 to tie a Morningside record previously set by Berst on two separate occasions. Reimann is second in the Mustangs’ record book with 9.7 career shutouts and fourth with 181 career saves.


Swotek, a senior defender from Council Bluffs, Iowa, dealt three assists to the Mustangs’ scoring attack to compliment her defensive abilities. Swotek finished her career with 14 assists for the ninth highest total in Morningside history.


Morningside posted a 10-6-4 record and finished fifth in the GPAC standings with a 5-3-2 league mark during the 2012 campaign. The Mustangs advanced to the semifinals of the GPAC Post-Season Tournament.

Bienlien A First-Team Academic All-American

Lydia Bienlien has been named a 2012 Capital One College Division Women's Soccer First-Team Academic All-American as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).


Bienlien, a senior defender from Glenwood, Iowa, has a 3.99 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with a double major in biology and chemistry. Bienlien played in 19 of Morningside’s 20 contests, including 18 starts, and helped the Mustangs limit their opponents to averages of 1.24 goals and 13.9 shots per game. Morningside shut out nine of its 20 opponents this season. Aside from her defensive exploits, Bienlien also contributed two points to the Mustangs’ offensive attack with a goal in a 2-0 victory against Dordt College on Oct. 23.


Bienlien was a second-team Women’s Soccer Academic All-American last year and was named a first-team Academic All-American in track & field.


Athletes must be of at least sophomore academic status, be a starter or significant reserve, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher to be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America honors.

Bienlien Named To Academic All-District Team

Lydia Bienlien, a senior defender from Glenwood, Iowa, has been named to the 2012 Capital One College Division Academic All-District 5 Women’s Soccer Team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).


Bienlien will be placed on the national ballot for selection of the 2012 Capital One College Division Academic All-America Team.

Bienlien has a 3.99 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with majors in biology and chemistry.


She was a second-team Academic All-American in women’s soccer and a first-team Academic All-American in women’s track & field as a junior.

Athletes must be of at least sophomore academic status, be a starter or significant reserve, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher to be eligible for Capital One Academic honors.


 

Niles Named GPAC Offensive Player Of The Week

Kelsey Niles, a junior midfielder from Sioux City, has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 15-21.


Niles helped lead the Mustangs to a pair of victories and into fourth place in the GPAC standings. She scored a hat trick to account for all of the Mustangs’ scoring in a 3-1 victory against Dakota Wesleyan University on Oct. 16 and dealt an assist in Morningside’s 2-0 triumph against Nebraska Wesleyan University on Oct. 20.

She moved into second place on the Mustangs’ season’s scoring chart with five goals and a team-high six assists for 16 points.

 

 

 

 


Reimann Named GPAC Defensive Player Of The Week For Third Time

Felicia Reimann, a junior goal keeper from Rapid City, S.D., has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 1-7.


Reimann, who received the honor for the third time this season, did not allow a goal in two matches covering 220 minutes of play when the Mustangs battled Northwestern College and Hastings College to 0-0 double overtime ties. She had three saves in the tie against Northwestern and had 10 saves against Hastings to keep the Broncos off the scoreboard in a contest where the Mustangs were outshot by a 22-6 margin.


 

 

 

 

Reimann Receives Weekly GPAC Award For Second Time

Felicia Reimann, a junior goal keeper from Rapid City, S.D., has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 17-23.


Reimann allowed only one goal in two contests to help the Mustangs go 1-0-1 for the week. She had seven saves to help the Mustangs battle Grand View University to a 1-1 double overtime tie in a contest where the Mustangs were outshot by a 14-7 margin. Reimann had six saves while posting her third shutout of the season when the Mustangs blanked Midland University 3-0 in a contest where they were outshot 12-11.


Reimann earned the GPAC Defensive Player of the Week award for the second time this season. She has a 4-2-2 record with a goals against average of 1.31 goals per game this season.


Morningside will take a 5-2-2 record into a contest against city rival Briar Cliff University on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

 

 

Samuelson Named GPAC Offensive Player Of The Week

Amy Samuelson, a freshman midfielder from Sioux City, has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 10-16.


Samuelson tallied two goals and three assists to help lead the Mustangs to a 2-1 record for the week.


Samuelson scored the only goal of the game to lift Morningside to a 1-0 victory against Bellevue University on Sept. 11 in Bellevue, Neb. She tallied a goal and three assists when Morningside defeated AIB College of Business on Sept.13 in Sioux City. Her three assists tied a Morningside single-match record.

 

 

 

 

Reimann Is GPAC Defensive Player Of The Week

Felicia Reimann, a junior goal keeper from Rapid City, S.D., has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 3 to 9.


Reimann came up with 14 saves and allowed four goals in the Mustangs’ three contests last week to help the Mustangs go 1-1-1 for the week.

She had six saves in a 1-1 double overtime tie against Jamestown College on Sept. 3 and had two saves in a 1-0 shutout victory against McPherson College on Sept. 9.

Morningside will take a 2-1-1 record into a 5 p.m. Tuesday contest against Bellevue University in Bellevue, Neb.

 

 

 

 

Mustangs Picked 7th In GPAC Pre-Season Poll

Morningside is picked seventh in the GPAC Women’s Soccer Coaches 2012 Pre-Season Poll.

The Mustangs return 16 letter winners, including six starters, from a team that posted an 11-9-1 record last season and finished seventh in the GPAC standings with a 4-6 league mark.

Morningside will open the 2012 season on the road with a 5 p.m. contest against College of Saint Mary on Wednesday, Aug. 29, in Omaha, Neb.
