Kelsey Ackerman, a 5-11 freshman outside hitter from Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Gabi French, a 5-11 junior outside hitter from Red Oak, Iowa, were both named to the all-tournament team at this past weekend’s LaQuinta-Kansas Wesleyan University Invitational volleyball tournament in Salina, Kan.

The Mustangs went 3-1 at the tournament to raise their record to 8-1.

Ackerman pounded 42 kills in the Mustangs’ four matches for an average of 2.80 kills per set. She had the first three double figure kill performances of her collegiate career with 12 in a 3-1 victory against Friends University, 10 in a 3-1 loss against Kansas Wesleyan, and 13 in a 3-1 triumph against Southwestern Christian University.

Ackerman raised her season’s average to 2.11 kills per set.

French paced the Mustangs’ attack with 52 kills at the tournament for an average of 3.47 kills per set. She also had 30 digs for a norm of 2.00 digs per set. She had a pair of double-doubles with 10 kills and 10 digs against Kansas Wesleyan and 15 kills and 11 digs against Southwestern Christian. French had 13 kills in the Mustangs’ win against Friends and 14 terminations in a 3-0 sweep of Bacone College.

French is averaging 3.88 kills and 3.19 digs per set so far this season and has five double-doubles in the Mustangs’ nine matches.

Morningside will compete in the Baker University Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Baldwin City, Kan.
