The Mustangs were tabbed for a second place finish in the GPAC race in the conference’s head coaches’ poll.

Morningside is picked for a second place finish in the GPAC Men’s Basketball Coaches Pre-Season Poll.

Morningside received 88 points and two of the 11 first place votes from the league’s head coaches. Midland, last year’s NAIA Division II national runner-up, received eight first place votes and finished first in the poll with 98 points.

The Mustangs return 12 lettermen including four starters, from a team that posted a 25-9 record last season and finished second in the GPAC with a 16-4 league mark. The Mustangs peaked at the end of the season when they went on a 10-game winning streak, capped by an 87-85 victory against Dordt College in the championship game of the GPAC’s post-season tournament to earn a berth in the NAIA Division II National Tournament.

Morningside will open the 2014-15 campaign with a 6 p.m. home game against Grand View University on Thursday, Oct. 30.
