Morningside wrapped up its first GPAC women’s tennis championship in school history with a 6-3 triumph against three-time reigning champion Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday in Sioux City.

The Mustangs won their eighth dual in a row to finish the regular season with a 10-4 record, including an unblemished 7-0 mark in the GPAC.

Morningside had to overcome a 2-1 deficit after the doubles competition to secure the victory and outright GPAC title. The Mustangs’ only victory in doubles was an 8-3 triumph by its third flight team of Kathryn Jones and Megan Carlson, but the hosts dominated the singles competition by taking five of the six flights.

Amanda Przymus

The Mustangs’ most lopsided singles triumph was a 6-2, 6-0 victory by Megan Solberg over Jaime Bridges in the sixth flight, a win that improved Solberg’s singles record to 9-5.

Morningside also had straight set triumphs with a 6-3, 6-3 win by Katie Hanson in the first flight and a 7-5, 7-5 victory by Amanda Przymus in the fourth flight.
