Get involved in performing arts
You enjoy playing a musical instrument. Singing in front of an audience makes you happy. You're excited about being in a theatre production. But you aren't interested in a music or theatre major. No problem. You can sing, play and perform to your heart's content at Morningside. If you have the talent and the desire, we have the group, ensemble or program that will give you an opportunity to join right in.
Instrumental and vocal groups
Our instrumental groups cover the full range from symphonic and chamber to jazz and marching. Likewise, Morningside's vocal ensembles and choirs perform a wide range of music from classical and traditional to jazz and show tunes. Students in some of our instrumental and vocal groups also get to go on regional, national and international tours. Recent tours have included trips to New York City, Italy, Spain and China. Morningside's Department of Music offers talent awards up to $3,000 per year to both music majors and non-majors. Learn more about music groups on campus.
Theatre productions let you act and sing on stage and also contribute behind the scenes with set building, lighting, sound, costuming and prop design. Every year the Theatre Department stages three or four major shows and several student acting and directing projects. All Morningside students can participate. Performance spaces on campus include the 1,300-seat Eppley Auditorium, Klinger-Neal Theatre with 300 seats and the Buhler Outdoor Performance Center. Learn more about theatre on campus.
