Position Description

 

Title: Case Work Intern

Hours: Flexible to Student’s Schedule

Position Summary: Assist program staff in the necessary steps involved in recruiting, screening, matching and supervising volunteers and children in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

Salary: Unpaid

Internship Description:

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing and supporting one-to-one mentoring relationships. Under direction of the Program Coordinator, this person will assist in the daily operations of the organization, including a wide variety of duties. May require occasional evening hours.

Responsibilities:

Work with staff to create volunteer and child assessments based on interviews and 

applications.

 Assist with program support and risk management by contacting mentors,

children and parents by phone, email and in-person.   

Aid in the monitoring of matches to problem solve and promote longevity of

relationships.

Contact families currently waiting for Big Brothers or Sisters to update on match

status.

Help in the implementation of agency group activities.

Seek out donations of free or reduced cost activities for volunteers to share with

with their Little Brother or Sister.

Assist with regular office duties as assigned.

 Work Environment:

Interns in this position will be required to work in a standard office environment and come in direct contact with staff and the public. May require some out-of-office contact with mentoring matches.

Requirements:

 

Education:   Student should be a junior or a senior majoring in psychology,

                      counseling, sociology, criminal justice, social work, education,

                      or other related fields.

Skills:          Excellent communication skills. Ability to deal with people from

                       different cultural and economic backgrounds and situations under

                       stress. Ability to conduct one’s self in a professional and

                       diplomatic manner.
