Accountant

Job Summary: This position shall be responsible for billing, accounts receivable and working with students on their accounts.  This position will also be responsible for a variety of staff accounting functions to include balance sheet reconcilements; audit work paper preparation; fixed asset records; bank reconciliation, and analysis; and other general accounting functions as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Accounting

  • Daily cash balancing
  • Daily Bank activity review
  • Recording payments as necessary
  • Assure the balancing and integrity of assigned accounts
  • Maintain Fixed Asset Depreciation Schedule
  • Maintain Documentation & Inventory of Fixed Assets
  • Reconcile bank accounts monthly
  • Monthly sales tax reporting
  • Maintain accounting and reporting for capital projects
  • Financial analysis as directed by Controller.
  • Prepares internal and external reports and surveys

Accounts Receivable

  • Audit and maintain student account receivable accounts (tuition billing, meal plan billing, drop refunds, full withdrawals, etc.)
  • Prepare monthly student accounts receivable communications
  • Oversee student payment plans
  • Process monthly ACH payment plans
  • Process monthly ACH past due payment plans
  • Manage accounts receivable collection process
  • Collaborate with financial aid to process financial aid payments
  • Prepare and maintain 3rd party billing (military, voc rehab, grants, etc.)

Customer Service

  • Provides timely and courteous service to all individuals
  • Answers phone calls in a timely and courteous manner
  • Assist with window coverage when necessary
  • Provide support to other staff

Other

  • Sets a positive example (Timeliness; work ethic; appearance; attitude)
  • Observes and maintains policy of confidentiality regarding all university business and records
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Controller

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Strong Accounting Knowledge
  • Computer Experience, strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Pleasant personality and ability to work well with people
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Accounting emphasis and/(or)
  • 3-5 years of progressive work experience in accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience
