Assistant Professor of Aviation
The Department of Aviation at Morningside University invites dynamic candidates for an Assistant Professor of Aviation to support the continued development of its newly created aviation programs. This is a 9-month tenure-track appointment, located on campus, with a start date of August 11, 2025.
Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate Aviation courses in areas including, but not limited to, flight operations, aviation law, air traffic control, aviation meteorology, human factors, aviation safety and security, and airport planning and administration.
- Carry a teaching load of 24 credits per academic year (usually three courses per semester), plus a May term once every three years.
- Provide academic advising for undergraduate Aviation students.
- Advise the Morningside Student Aero Club with an opportunity to develop and coach the collegiate flying competition team.
- Engage in service to the university and participate in professional development activities.
- Collaborate with Oracle Aviation, the Chief Flight Instructor, the Director of Aviation, and the Dean to deliver:
- Professional Flight air and ground schools
- The Aviation Management major.
- Assist with the marketing and recruitment of students to Morningside’s aviation program.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in Aviation or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution is required.
- A Doctoral degree in Aviation is preferred.
- Experience in a FAR Part 141 ground school setting is preferred.
- Although this position does not involve flight instruction, possession of FAA Advanced ratings is preferred.
Our Flight Provider:
Oracle Aviation provides the flight component of the Professional Flight (BS) program. The new, state-of-the-art facility has 30,000 sq. ft. of hangar space, a modern lobby and passenger lounge, a canteen and dining space, multiple conference rooms, and more. It is located seven miles from campus at the Sioux Gateway Airport (KSUX).
The flight school boasts multiple learning spaces for student/instructor interaction, a modern classroom for organized training sessions and class events, a full motion, FAA-approved flight simulator, and a private student lounge to encourage student involvement and engagement at the airport. This comfortable, welcoming facility serves as an extension of the Morningside campus and a window into the world of Aviation for our flight students. Oracle currently offers the following aircraft for student training.
- 3 Cessna 172s (PPC and Instrument)
- Piper Arrow (Commercial)
- Additional aircraft will be available as the program progresses.
