Assistant Professor of Exercise Science
The Morningside University Natural Sciences Department seeks applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level in Exercise Science and/or Kinesiology to begin August 11, 2025.
The faculty member will teach in-person undergraduate students with diverse interests, including students pursuing a variety of exercise science/kinesiology-related careers. The successful candidate for the position must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to high-quality teaching, be energetic, engaging, student-focused, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrate a commitment to cultural diversity and inclusive education. Since this is a new major, the faculty will have the opportunity to grow and develop this new and exciting program.
This is a 9-month, tenure-track position.
Teaching duties:
- Teaching load is 24 credits per academic year which includes a May Term course once every three years. Undergraduate classes are offered in an in-person four-credit hour format.
- Courses taught could include, but are not limited to: Introduction to Exercise & Sports Sciences, Fitness Assessment & Exercise Prescriptions, Developmental Motor Control, Biomechanics (Kinesiology), and Principles of Training & Conditioning. Faculty will teach in the university’s general education programs as needed.
- Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through academic and career advising, careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies, and informed critical feedback on assignments.
- Prepare course materials and use appropriate teaching techniques which may include: delivering lectures, leading discussions, team and project-based learning, and conducting experiential learning opportunities in face-to-face classes.
- Mentor and serve as a faculty research advisor for undergraduate Exercise Science Program student research projects.
- Research with undergraduate students is desirable and supported.
Qualifications:
A Doctoral degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field preferred, ABD will be considered. Relevant experience and preferred qualifications include: high-quality student-oriented teaching focus, strong interpersonal skills, proven history with teaching and student mentoring, teaching experience in Exercise Science and kinesiology-related areas at the university undergraduate level.
The Department of Natural Sciences offers majors in Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Biology, Chemistry, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care, and Medical Laboratory Sciences.
