Senior Project Manager

Morningside University is looking to fill the position of Senior Project Manager in the Information Technology department. This position will work as a Project Manager for multiple information technology projects including improvement of IT systems and processes, integration of information technology systems, and implementation of new software and hardware systems. This position works with technical staff, vendors, and non-technical users to understand business needs and drives multiple projects to be completed on time and within budget.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Handle various responsibilities such as planning, scheduling, coordinating, and communication of all assigned projects.
  • Negotiate and establish deadlines and budget of the project by working with the project team to understand the requirements.
  • Establish project goals and create plans to meet goals.
  • Assists the IT leadership with developing standard operating procedures and processes around project management.
  • Assist the IT leadership with developing a strategy to manage the portfolio of IT-related projects and assist with giving vision to the IT projects.
  • Track and maintain project timeframes, status reports, and risk assessments.
  • Present status reports of projects as needed.
  • Track existing and new IT projects and requests to completion.
  • Develop and Maintain communication and rapport with business unit staff to ensure all project tasks are fully understood and communicated.
  • Creating long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines
  • Delegating tasks on the project to employees best positioned to complete them 
  • Serving as a point of contact for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to ensure team actions remain in synergy
  • Performing quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected
  • Adjusting schedules and targets on the project as needs or financing for the project change
  • Suggests improvements to workflows and processes to improve the efficiency of the project management area within IT. 
  • Participate and contribute to other work-related activities as assigned by the VP/CIO

Qualifications:

  • Collaborative skills to work effectively with faculty, staff, and senior administrators in areas to develop and implement projects to deliver improved technology solutions.
  • Ability to understand complex challenges and lead project teams of technologists to deploy appropriate solutions that meet campus vision and mission.
  • Effective formal and informal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships with faculty and students who are technical and non-technical, management, and professional staff representing various interests and perspectives.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills coupled with ability to develop an environment that promotes partnership and transparency with other organizations.
  • Excellent oral and written technical and communication skills required to communicate effectively with diverse academic and administrative constituencies both on and off campus.
  • Project Management Professional certification
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience including a minimum of two years of experience in project management
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in the management of technology related projects
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate and communicate with technical and non-technical staff 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five to eight years of experience managing complex IT related projects, especially in a university setting 
  • Experience managing projects that achieve the most effective and efficient solutions to support teaching, student learning, and business processes
