Our Exercise Science major combines a unique blend of Biology and Chemistry courses with specialized classes in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, and Human Performance. This versatile curriculum prepares you for a wide range of fulfilling careers, whether you aspire to study Human Performance, pursue a career in healthcare, conduct lab research, become a fitness trainer, or explore other exciting paths. Throughout the four-year Bachelor of Science degree, you will delve into the complexities of human movement, learn how it is studied and assessed, and develop strategies to improve or treat injuries related to it. MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

Introduction to Exercise & Sport Sciences
This course is designed to introduce the exercise and sport science major, to introduce the profession of exercise and sport science, and to give insight into the many diverse careers that can result from studying the discipline. Students will also examine the role of exercise on the health and well-being of society. Students wil explore what it means to exercise, the importance of exercise, and some of the barriers and facilitators that impact the ability of various individuals to participate in exercise.

Fitness Assessment & Exercise Prescription
This course provides a thorough introduction to exercise testing and prescription. Students wil learn to perform preliminary screenings, cardiorespiratory, strength, flexibility, body composition and balance assessments. Course is lecture and lab (1.5 hour lab)

Developmental Motor Control
This course is designed to acquaint the student with principles associated with the acquisition and motor control of functional movement skills. Principles and theories wil provide the student with selected concepts of skill development and a framework for their application ni clinical practice, coaching and teaching.

Biomechanics of Human Motion (Kinesiology)
This course is designed to develop student competencies in the understanding of biomechanics on both a scientific and clinical basis. After mastering the course content, students will be able to understand and describe the normal, dynamic aspects of the human body and how it functions efficiently from its most simple form to the most complex. Additionally, students wil be introduced to the clinical assessment and rehabilitation of biomechanical pathology. Thsi introduction wil assist the future scientist/clinician ni the proper steps of patient recovery of function.

Principles of Training & Conditioning
This course is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of strength and conditioning. Emphasis is placed on the exercise sciences (including anatomy, exercise physiology, and biomechanics), nutrition, exercise technique, program design, organization and administration, and testing and evaluation. Course is lecture and lab (2 hour lab)

Exercise Science Internship
Internship ni Exercise Science is a supervised experience in which the student can implement theories and practices in a professional setting under the direction of a qualified administrator. Students wil participate in either aful or part-time experience that fits their personal interest for exposure to various professional areas lof Exercise Science.

Capstone Seminar
Capstone experience integrating the core learned ni major level courses through readings, class discussions, writings, and projects. Emphasis on student oral and written presentations of research projects could be, but aren’t necessarily limited to: experimental projects and/or library based projects and/or projects drawn from the internship experience.
