Morningside’s online RN to BSN program is designed so you can continue both your education and professional work. It can be completed in as little as one year (three terms), or you can build an individualized plan of study to complete coursework at the speed that works best for you.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The program is specially designed for students who have completed an associate degree in nursing, giving you the ability to transfer up to 94 credits from accredited two-year colleges like Western Iowa Technical Community College, Northeast Community College in Nebraska, Iowa Lakes Community College, and Northwest Iowa Community College.
An added advantage of Morningside’s program is the option to take your education even further. The Morningside Nylen School of Nursing offers both online Master of Science in Nursing and online Doctor of Nursing Practice options.

Online RN to BSN Mission Statement
The mission of the Nylen School of Nursing online RN to BSN program is to prepare academically and clinically competent professional nurses to deliver holistic health care, integrating the values of a liberal arts education with professional preparation.
Goal of the Online RN to BSN Major
The Nylen School of Nursing online RN to BSN program provides a learning environment that cultivates the development of:

Online RN to BSN Student Outcomes
Upon completion of the online RN to BSN program, the student will be able to:
- Knowledge for Nursing Practice: The BSN student will integrate, translate, and apply established and evolving disciplinary nursing knowledge and ways of knowing, as well as knowledge from other disciplines into entry level professional nursing practice.
- Person-Centered Care: Entry to professional practice BSN entry to professional practice student will provide person-centered care that is holistic, individualized, just, respectful, compassionate, coordinated, evidence-based, and developmentally appropriate.
- Population Health: Entry to professional practice BSN student will apply principles of population health that spans across the healthcare delivery continuum and implement activities among stakeholders to improve health equity and health care.
- Scholarship for Nursing Discipline: Entry to professional practice BSN student will use nursing knowledge and best evidence in an ethical manner to improve health and transform health care.
- Quality and Safety: Entry to professional practice BSN student will apply concepts of quality and safety and minimize risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performance.
- Interprofessional Partnerships: Entry to professional practice BSN student will utilize intentional collaboration across professions and with care team members, patients, families, communities, and other stakeholders to optimize care, enhance the healthcare experience, and strengthen outcomes.
- Systems-Based Practice: Entry to professional practice BSN student will effectively and proactively coordinate resources to provide safe, quality, equitable care to diverse populations.
- Informatics and Healthcare Technologies: Entry to professional practice BSN student will use informatics processes and technologies to manage and improve the delivery of safe, high-quality, and efficient healthcare services in accordance with best practice and professional and regulatory standards.
- Professionalism: Entry to professional practice BSN student will construct a sustainable professional nursing identity, accountability, perspective, collaborative disposition, and comportment that reflects nursing’s characteristics and values.
- Personal, Professional, and Leadership Development: Entry to professional practice BSN student will apply activities and self-reflection that foster personal health, resilience, and well-being, lifelong learning, and support the acquisition of nursing expertise and assertion of leadership.
- Associate degree (recent associate degree graduates may apply while waiting to take the NCLEX-RN licensure exam)
- Active RN license
- Automatic acceptance cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher (lower GPA will be considered based on other individual factors)
- Earn a grade of “C” or better in required courses for the major
- Active BLS certification for healthcare providers
- Completion and approval of background check
- Compliance with required immunizations upon admission
- Meet the essential ability requirements
Transcript Submission Requirements
We require official transcripts for admission to the Online RN to BSN Program. We accept electronic transcripts from either (a) an institution or (b) an established provider. This includes Script Safe, Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse, Docufide, SENDedu, etc.

Iowa Administrative Code 655–2.10(152) details that students and prospective students may not take nursing courses with a clinical or practicum component by a person: 1) who has been denied licensure by the board; 2) whose license is currently suspended, surrendered, or revoked in any U.S. jurisdiction; or 3) whose license is currently suspended, surrendered, or revoked in another country due to disciplinary action. Individuals seeking enrollment or currently enrolled in nursing programs who are not eligible to take a course with a clinical component because of disciplinary action in any state should contact the Iowa Board of Nursing Enforcement Unit at (515) 281-6472 as soon as possible. Individuals not eligible to take a clinical or practicum component will not be admitted to the nursing program or allowed to progress in the curriculum.
The baccalaureate degree program in nursing/master’s degree program in nursing/doctorate of nursing of practice degree program/and post-graduate APRN certificate program at Morningside University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org).
