My name is Christian Wilt, and I am from Virginia. I am a sophomore majoring in Political Science and minoring in Business. In addition to academics, I am on the Morningside Men’s Wrestling team.

Being able to find balance in my life is something that I am very passionate about. It can be challenging to balance athletics, academics, and finding time to spend with my family and friends. At Morningside, finding this balance has become easier to tackle because I know I have resources to turn to if I am struggling. When things feel like they are too much to handle, being honest with my coach and professors has helped me. My coach has helped me find tutors and resources on campus to help when I am struggling with my classes, and he always holds his athletes accountable when it comes to their schoolwork. Having a coach who understands the importance of being a student and an athlete has made it so much easier for me to find the balance in my life.

At Morningside, you do not have to worry about being just another number. The small class sizes make it easy to connect with your classmates and professors. Your professors are going to be some of your biggest supporters throughout your time in college. These professors are here to help you and truly care about you as an individual. When you declare a major, you will be around the same professors until you graduate, and they want to watch you succeed. Being at a university where the professors care about you as a person and not only push you to be your best but also make sure you aren’t burning yourself out is so important.

My biggest advice to incoming freshmen is not to be afraid to change their major. When I was coming out of high school, I was determined to do one major, but once I started it, I realized that it was not for me. You do not have to have everything figured out when you step into your freshman year; college is meant for trial and error and figuring out who you want to be. When you come to campus, you may not find your people right away, but if you just give it some time, you’ll be able to find those small niche groups that you connect with.
