“You are capable of more than you realize.”

My name is Ella Stapek. I am from Fulton, Minnesota and I am studying Biomedical Science. Aside from academics, I stay busy by participating in cross country and track and being involved in the Symphonic Chorus and the Morningside Singers. I’m also part of several campus organizations like Tri-Beta, the Pre-Professional Health Club, and ODK.

I am also in the Bio Honors Program, which has pushed me to take on some exciting research projects. It all started when I raised chickens back home in Minnesota. At first, it was just something I wanted to explore on my own, but when I talked to my advisor Dr. Moore, I was encouraged to turn it into an official research project. So, I ended up raising 30 broiler chickens over the summer specifically for my research, and now I’m applying what I learned to improve my homemade chicken feed. It’s been such a fun and rewarding experience, and it has helped my love for science and animals continue to grow.

I’ll be graduating in May as a third-year senior. I chose Morningside because when I first visited campus, it felt like home. Morningside has been a place where I was able to step outside of my comfort zone and try new things. I have always been a quiet and reserved person, but the community at Morningside has made me feel safe enough to try new things and meet new people.

For anyone considering Morningside, my advice is to say yes to every opportunity. Whether that is saying yes to a new club, or saying yes to meeting one-on-one with a professor. There are so many chances to grow at Morningside, and the faculty, staff, and students here are genuinely invested in helping you become the best version of yourself.

Don’t box yourself in. While the safe zone can feel comfortable, real growth happens when you step outside of it. Make memories, be around the people who lift you up, and embrace every moment.
