“Growing up in Crofton, NE, I always felt the warmth of a close-knit community in our town. The heart of it for me was the fine arts program. Even if we didn’t have the resources of bigger schools, that program was influential in helping me connect with people and see bigger things for myself.
My older brother, now in his senior year here, is a big influence in my life. He assisted in my transition to college and became my roommate when I started. Another reason I chose Morningside was I heard good things about the science program. When I came to visit, I ended up learning about the STEM Community Scholars program. Though unsure which science major I wanted to pursue, I knew I wanted to be part of the program for the opportunities it would give me. I declared a biology major and later decided to double up with chemistry. I love conducting experiments and uncovering the truths and fallacies within my hypotheses.
In high school, my teachers helped nurture a love for science. Unlike other subjects that often left me adrift, science was my anchor, offering the clarity and structure I craved. At Morningside, I’m involved in Beta Beta Beta, SEA, and I preside over the Chemistry Club. But it’s not all molecules and theories—I carry a deep passion for music, too, finding joy in the collective harmony of the Morningside Choir. Bringing together individuals with different stories to create something beautiful taps into a profound sense of hope.
Soon, I’ll be traveling to South Africa, joined by my brother and friends who made my switch to college life seamless. College was intimidating at first, I’d be lying if I said otherwise. I was the kind of guy who hesitated to make friends on my own, but thanks to the STEM grant, choir, and of course, my brother, I have found my place.
What really stands out at Morningside, though, is the sense of community. I love walking across campus and seeing familiar faces, and I realized that the relationships I have built aren’t just simple friendships, they are people who have become my support and who I believe will be a part of my life forever.”
