“I didn’t always know I wanted to be a nurse. Until my senior year of high school, I wanted to study animal science. However, my mom encouraged me to take a CNA class, and I found out that I really liked it. Nursing offered not just a career, but also the flexibility to work almost anywhere. There is always a call to help someone wherever you go.”
My name is Regan Peters and I will be a junior this fall. I’m a nursing major and on campus, I’m involved in ODK and Morningside Student Nurses Association. One standout class I’ve taken was my Acute and Chronic 1 class last semester, where I had the opportunity to engage in clinical experiences at Mercy’s endoscopy unit. Watching EGD procedures and successfully inserting my first IV were awesome experiences.
Outside the classroom, I work at Floyd Valley Healthcare as a CNA and Heartland Care Center as a CMA . My jobs have helped me learn a lot. Hearing medical terminology in a workplace setting brings the classroom to life and vice versa. I feel that both experiences have taught me invaluable lessons on how to work through any situation you may run into.
Though I’m a commuter, I find joy in campus life, often at the library cramming for exams with a steaming cup of coffee. I also love spending time on our beautiful campus at the fountains outside because they are relaxing.
I love Morningside because of the personalized experience you get here. I actually transferred to Morningside after my first year of college from a larger school because at Morningside, you’re always going to have a professor to go to or someone to make sure you don’t fall behind. That person for me has been Kelli Flax. She has continuously gotten to know me as not just a student, but as a person. My friends have definitely helped me along too. We’ve all pushed each other to pass our finals, get through the hard stuff, and make memories.
Reach out to professors sooner than later if you have questions or are struggling because they only want to help! Get involved on campus, meet people, and make new connections!
