Volunteering and Engagement

GIVE BACK AND GET ENGAGED

Morningside believes that experience matters, and some of the best experience comes from connecting within our community. Siouxland does so much to support Morningside University and our students, so students often find it rewarding to volunteer and give back to them.

VOLUNTEERING

Opportunities for volunteerism are abundant across various clubs and organizations on campus. The Morningside Civic Union stands as a nonpartisan group that engages volunteers in voter registration drives. Our chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa spearheads Morningside’s annual Into the Streets campaign, a day dedicated to student volunteerism throughout the local area. Campus Ministries and other organizations also coordinate a wide range of service projects including an on-campus food pantry and assisting with food pantries nearby. Additionally, many student groups and athletic teams participate in volunteer efforts during the academic year. Regardless of your interests, Morningside offers numerous ways to make a positive impact on the world.

INTO THE STREETS

Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) hosts one of Morningside’s most beloved traditions each fall: Into the Streets. This campus-wide volunteer event occurs on a designated no-class day, allowing as many as 900 students to participate. Volunteers from student organizations, athletic teams, classes, and internship programs come together to serve over 80 nonprofits and organizations throughout Siouxland. Projects range from painting and planting to organizing clothes and packing food. This event is a highlight of the year and a fantastic way to give back to the community.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

The Morningside Civic Union is a nonpartisan center dedicated to activities relating to citizenship and civic awareness. Students take part in voter registration events, host speakers and debates on relevant topics, explore important issues, and host political candidates. The center also strives to foster a sense of community and engagement by encouraging active participation in the democratic process.

The governors of Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota gather every two years for a lunch to discuss important issues impacting all three states.
