Juarez Patricio de Oliveira Jr., an agronomy professor from the Federal University of Goiás in Brazil, will present a lecture at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Morningside College. Patricio de Oliveira is in residence on campus for four weeks as part of the Dimmitt Fellows program.

Juarez Patricio de Oliveira Jr., an agronomy professor from the Federal University of Goiás in Brazil, will present a lecture titled “Brazil’s Cerrado: A Story of Innovation and Determination in Agriculture” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, in the UPS Auditorium in Lincoln Center, 3627 Peters Ave., on the Morningside College campus.

Patricio de Oliveira is in residence on campus at Morningside College for four weeks as part of the Dimmitt Fellows program. He is staying as a guest in the visiting faculty apartment in Dimmitt Hall until Thursday, Sept. 22. While on campus, he is visiting classrooms and talking to students about agriculture from a global perspective.

Patricio de Oliveira graduated from the Federal University of Goiás in 1988 with a degree in agronomy and received his master’s degree in soil science from the Federal University of Lavras in 1992. He went back to the Federal University of Goiás and received a Ph.D. in agronomy in 1998.

He is currently a professor at the Federal University of Goiás in central Brazil and director of a radio and television educational and cultural foundation. There he also served as director of the agronomy school from 2006 to 2014.
