Two Morningside wrestlers were named 2016-17 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
Derik Bailey and Alex Schmitz are 2016-17 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes in the sport of wrestling.
Bailey, a junior from Smithland, Iowa, has a 3.95 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with a major in biology. Bailey has an 11-15 record with three falls and is a 165 lb. qualifier for this week’s NAIA Wrestling National Championships.
Schmitz, a sophomore from Carroll, Iowa, has a 3.87 cumulative GPA with a major in biology. Schmitz finished the season with a record of 18-12 with three falls.
Student-athletes must be of at least junior academic status and have a minimum GPA of 3.50 in order to be eligible for Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.
