Bak is runner-up medalist at GPAC Qualifier #3
Keegan Bak fired a four-over par 76 to tie for runner-up medalist honors at GPAC Men’s Golf Qualifier #3.
Keegan Bak, a senior from Hinton, Iowa, was the runner-up medalist at GPAC Men’s Golf Qualifier #3 held Tuesday at Whispering Creek Golf Club in Sioux City.
Bak fired a four-over par 76 to share runner-up honors with Justin Kraft of Northwestern College. Ben Vetrovsky of Hastings College was the individual medalist with a one-over par 73.
Bak, who was tied for fifth place in the GPAC individual standings entering the day, moved into a tie for second place with Cameron Farrell of Nebraska Wesleyan at nine-over par 224 with three of the four GPAC qualifier tourneys in the book. Kraft is the GPAC’s individual leader with a combined three-tournament score of six-over par 221.
Bak’s second place finish in GPAC Qualifier #3 led the Mustangs to an eighth place finish in the team standings with a 334. The Mustangs finished just three strokes out of seventh place behind Midland and four strokes out of fifth place, where Dakota Wesleyan and Doane finished in a tie at 330.
Aside from Bak’s 76, the Mustangs completed their team score with an 83 from Jason Vander Kooi, a freshman from Merrill, Iowa; an 87 from Nate Lubbers, a sophomore from Moville, Iowa; and an 88 from Alex O’Neill, a senior from Ponca, Neb.
Morningside is in ninth place in the combined GPAC team scoring with a score of 957. The Mustangs are five strokes out of eighth place behind Dakota Wesleyan.
The Mustangs will compete in the Doane Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Lincoln and Crete, Neb.
