Joey Cannon received the GPAC Wrestler of the Week award after he won the Class B 285 lb. title at the Buena Vista Open.
Joey Cannon, a freshman from Chapel Hill, N.C., is the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Wrestler of the Week for Nov. 27-Dec. 3.
Cannon defeated four opponents, including two by fall, to win the Class B 285 lb. championship at last Saturday’s Buena Vista University Open in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Cannon won a 7-4 decision against Kendall Farr of Midland University, pinned Victor Garcia of Northwestern College in 6:51 in the quarterfinals, won a 1-0 decision against Matthew Wilke of Briar Cliff University in the semifinals and pinned Patrick DePiazza of Ellsworth Community College in 4:23 in the championship match.
Cannon had an 11-4 record with seven falls this season.
The Mustangs will host Hastings College in their first GPAC dual of the season on Friday at 7 p.m.
