Patrick Bass, professor of history at Morningside College, will give a lecture on the background of the gun control issue at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, in the Weikert Auditorium in Buhler Rohlfs Hall, 1701 Morningside Ave.
This event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Col. Bud Day Center for Civic Engagement in collaboration with the Morningside College History Department.
“The Background to Gun Control: The Second Amendment, Politics, and Original Intent” will consider the wording of the Second Amendment in its historical contexts and will provide an overview of the evolution of practical and constitutional views of federal gun control efforts. The vantage point will remain nonpartisan, even as the lecture challenges popular and preconceived notions attached to the gun control issue on both sides of the electoral divide.
Bass has taught at Morningside College since 1992. He teaches European and American history, research methods and foreign policy. He has a doctorate from Claremont Graduate School in Claremont, Calif.
Morningside College opened the Col. Bud Day Center for Civic Engagement in April 2015.
