Defensive Dominance – Mustangs extend scoreless streak

ORANGE CITY, IOWA – The numbers continue to rise in reaction to a late regular season surge by Morningside College.
Senior goalkeeper Tristan Beaulieu (Sioux City, Iowa) put up another opponent goose egg, this one occurring against Great Plains Athletic Conference rival Northwestern College Saturday, Oct. 20, to move the needle on the Maroon and White’s defensive scoreless streak to better than 200 minutes. Beaulieu’s fourth shutout of the season featured a pair of saves to ensure head coach Tom Maxon’s team won for the fifth time in the last six outings and jumped into a fourth-place tie with Briar Cliff on the loop standings.
The Mustangs’ offense, rattling 18 shots at the Red Raiders’ defense, finally broke through on the scoreboard in the 85th minute. Senior midfielder Merle Bublitz (Burgwedel, Germany) found the back of the opposition net for the fourth time in her last five matches played for the game-winning strike, her fourth of the year.
Morningside College is back on its home pitch at Elwood Olsen Stadium Wednesday, Oct. 24. Hastings College of Nebraska, part of a three-way tie for the conference lead, takes an eastern trek for a 5:30 p.m. start.
