SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Dr. Kati Meyer, a former Morningside University professor and current visiting professor at the University of Iowa, will make her return on Oct. 29 to be the speaker of the Morningside Humanities Speaker Series.

The event will be Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m., inside the UPS Auditorium at the Lincoln Center. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Her topic is “Textural and Timbral Influences on Storytelling Narrative in Pop/Rock Music.” She will explain how pop and rock songs use verses and choruses to tell a story. By looking at different sounds and textures, Meyer shows how these elements help create deeper, evolving stories in the music.

While at Morningside, Meyer taught music theory, music technology, and applied piano lessons from 2016-2018. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota-Morris, her master’s from Northwestern University (Ill.), and a Ph.D. from Iowa in Music Theory.
