VERMILLION, S.D. – Dr. Shirley Neugebauer Luebke, an adjunct professor in the
Morningside University School of Visual and Performing Arts, has recently been named
a 2024 College of Fine Arts Hall of Fame recipient by the University of South Dakota.

“Shirley is synonymous with music in Sioux City, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have
her as part of the Morningside family,” said Heath Weber, dean of the School of Visual
and Performing Arts. “This incredible honor reflects the many relationships she has built
and the years of dedicated work she has contributed to music education — it is truly
well-deserved.”

Before joining Morningside, Luebke served as the head music teacher for the Sioux City
Community School District and founded the Siouxland Youth Chorus, which is
celebrating its 35th anniversary.

As a passionate mentor for aspiring musicians, Luebke participates in several
associations, including the Iowa Music Educators Association. She is also an active
performer, playing the clarinet with the All-American Band, the Sioux City Municipal
Band, and the LeMars Municipal Band, as well as the organ at Trinity Lutheran Church.
At Morningside, she teaches music education and clarinet.

Dr. Luebke will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at 4 p.m. on Sept. 27 in the Warren M.
Lee Center for the Fine Arts.
