Faculty member hired to score assessment for pre-service teachers
Dr. Lorna Leavitt, associate professor of education at Morningside College, has been hired by Pearson to score the spring edTPA assessment given to pre-service teachers.
Dr. Lorna Leavitt, associate professor of education at Morningside College, has been hired by Pearson to score the spring edTPA assessment given to pre-service teachers.
She will score portfolios for special education.
EdTPA is an assessment designed to answer the question: “Is a new teacher ready for the job?” It includes a review of teaching materials that document and demonstrate each candidate’s ability to effectively teach his or her subject matter to all students. Pearson is a major publisher of educational products such as the edTPA assessment.
Leavitt has been on the faculty at Morningside College since 2005. She teaches educational assessment and special education coursework. She previously was a special education instructor for Cherokee Community School District. Leavitt has a doctorate in adult and higher education leadership from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.
