Morningside College faculty members recently presented at the Conference on College Composition and Communication in Houston.

During their session, titled “Development of Writing Transfer Via Research, Assessment, and Faculty Training,” they discussed research on how college students transfer writing skills and knowledge from one class to another and how it has been used to inform the development of alternative first-year courses and faculty development.

Their presentations were “Writing Transfer Research: Process and Findings” by Leslie Werden, associate professor and chair of writing and rhetoric; “An Inclusive Approach to Teaching Writing” by David Elder, assistant professor of writing and rhetoric, and Alden Stout, assistant professor of philosophy; and “Faculty Development and Assessment with Regard to First Year Seminar and Writing Across the Curriculum” by Jeremy Schnieder, assistant professor of writing and rhetoric, and Jessica Tinklenberg, associate professor of religious studies.

In addition, Werden created a video to welcome newcomers to the convention. The video aired on the National Council of Teachers of English website.

College faculty members from around the world attend the annual Conference on College Composition and Communication. Approximately 3,000 people attended this year’s conference.
