Former Sioux Falls city champion to join Mustangs’ women’s golf team
Former Sioux Falls O’Gorman prep standout Myla Brown will join the Mustangs’ women’s golf team.
Morningside College head women’s golf coach Todd Sapp announced that Myla Brown of Sioux Falls, S.D., who will join the Mustangs’ for the 2015 fall season.
Brown will join the Mustangs with freshman eligibility as a transfer from NCAA Division II Minnesota State University, Mankato, where she is a redshirt this season.
Brown is a 2014 graduate of perennial South Dakota prep power Sioux Falls O’Gorman High School, which has four Class AA state championships and four runner-up finishes over the last eight years. The Knights have won 11 consecutive Sioux Falls city championships.
She had an 18-hole scoring average of 80.0 as a prep senior. Brown was the city medalist with rounds of 80, 78, and 77 for a total of 235 for a four-stroke victory margin to lead the Knights to the team title at the 2014 Sioux Falls City Tournament. Brown finished fifth in a field of 105 golfers with a two-day total of 154 to help lead O’Gorman to the 2014 South Dakota Class AA state championship. Brown carded an opening round 79 and finished with a second round 75 for her low score of the season and the second lowest second round score in the tournament field.
Brown finished 15th in the individual standings at the South Dakota Class AA state tournament as a junior to help lead O’Gorman to a runner-up finish and was 19th in the individual standings to help lead O’Gorman to a state title during her sophomore campaign. Brown attended Battlefield High School in Virginia as a freshman and was a state tournament qualifier.
