Steven Garcia became the first wrestler in Morningside history to be named to the All-GPAC First Team four times.

Steven Garcia, a 149 lb. senior from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, was named to the 2018 All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Wrestling First Team as selected by the league’s head coaches.

Garcia became the first wrestler in Morningside history to receive first-team All-GPAC honors four times in a career.

Garcia, a two-time NAIA All-American in the 149 lb. division, has a 23-4 record with five falls and was the 149 lb. runner-up at last Saturday’s GPAC Wrestling Championships in Hastings, Neb. Garcia will take a 92-32 record into the 2018 NAIA Wrestling National Championships on March 2 and 3 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Morningside’s Keegan Hessler, Devin Phaly and Alex Schmitz were named to the All-GPAC Second Team.

 Hessler, a 125 lb. junior from Scottsbluff, Neb., has an 11-5 record with six falls. Hessler, a NAIA All-American with a sixth place finish in the 125 lb. division at last year’s NAIA National Championships, punched his ticket for this year’s national tournament with a second place finish at last Saturday’s GPAC Championships.

Phaly, a 125 lb. junior from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, has a 23-15 record with seven falls. He qualified for the upcoming NAIA National Championships with a third place finish at the GPAC Championships.

Schmitz, a senior from Carroll, Iowa, has a 12-9 record with two falls.
