Gates has Mustangs’ top finish at NAIA Nationals
Tracy Gates placed 12th in the women’s 1650-yard freestyle at the NAIA Swimming & Diving National Championships.
Tracy Gates, a junior from Escondido, Calif., had the Mustangs’ top individual finish at the 2016 NAIA Swimming & Diving National Championships in Columbus, Ga., during Saturday’s competition in the women’s 1650-yard freestyle.
Gates placed 12th in the event with a time of 18:28.97.
The Mustangs placed 15th in the men’s 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:16.16 from John Dieter, a sophomore from Carroll, Iowa; Michael Andrlik, a senior from Ralston, Neb.; Tim Cohoon, a freshman from Buffalo, Wyo.; and Evan Persson, a junior from Blair, Neb.
Morningside had several swimmers compete in Saturday’s individual event prelims.
Alex Paulsen, a junior from Carroll, Iowa, finished 18th in the men’s 200-yard butterfly prelims with a time of 2:00.78.
Veronica Mullen, a freshman from Omaha, Neb., finished 25th in the women’s 200-yard backstroke prelims with a time of 2:18.53.
George Weiss, a freshman from Council Bluffs, Iowa, finished 32nd in the men’s 200-yard breaststroke prelims with a time of 2:18.78.
Evelyn Edge, a junior from Genoa City, Wis., finished 41st in the women’s 100-yard freestyle prelims with a time of 55.92 seconds.
Persson finished 41st and Cohoon finished 42nd in the men’s 100-yard freestyle prelims with times of 50.06 and 50.59, respectively.
Morningside finished 19th in the prelims of the women’s 400-yard freestyle prelims with a time of 3:50.20 from Gates, Alyssa Nehring, a sophomore from Humboldt, Iowa; Mullen, and Edge.
