Hystad leads Mustang bowlers to 3rd place finish

Matthew Hystad made the all-tournament team to help lead the Morningside men’s bowling team to a third place finish at the Hastings College Bronco Blast tournament held Saturday and Sunday in Hastings, Neb.
Hystad, a sophomore from Le Mars, Iowa, knocked down 1270 pins for a 212 average to finish third in the individual standings. Hystad topped the 200-pin mark in each of his final four games with scores of 232, 236, 210 and 212.
Morningside finished with a team score of 8918 pins for third place in a nine-team field. The Mustangs finished behind Hastings (9207) and the University of Nebraska (9080).
Aside from Hystad, the Mustangs had two other bowlers finish in the top 20. Ethan Mikkelson finished 15th with 1130 pins and a 188 average and Jorge Loredo Duran finished 16th with 1123 pins and a 187 average. Mikkelson’s top score was a 216, while Duran bowled a 222.
Tanner Hansel had the Mustangs’ top individual game score of the tournament with a 259 in his finale. He had a 210 earlier in the tourney. The Mustangs also had 200 games from Tommy Croskrey with a 214 and Alex Eukovich with a 205.
