Jacob Lamoreux was named the Co-GPAC Player of the Year to highlight the Mustangs’ selections on the 2017 All-GPAC Baseball Team.

Jacob Lamoreux, a senior outfielder from Le Mars, Iowa, was named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Co-Player of the Year to highlight the Mustangs’ selections on the 2017 All-GPAC Baseball Team as selected by the league’s head coaches.

Lamoreux shared the GPAC Player of the Year award with Midland University outfielder Cole Gray.

Lamoreux collected 73 hits in 191 at-bats for a .382 batting average for his third Morningside batting title in the last four years. Lamoreux had 12 doubles, six home runs and 44 RBIs and led the Mustangs with three triples and 59 runs scored.

Lamoreux batted .386 during his career and is Morningside’s all-time career leader with 309 hits and 229 runs scored.

Lamoreux was also named to the 2017 GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Baseball Gold Glove Team. Lamoreux made only two errors and had a .983 fielding percentage this season.

Aside from Lamoreux, the Mustangs also placed Blake Rogers, Nathan DeChaine and Nolan Hoff on the All-GPAC First Team.

Rogers, a senior catcher from Reading, Minn., hit .365 with 17 doubles, 11 home runs and 47 RBIs. He led the Mustangs with his 17 doubles and was second on the team with 34 walks en route to a team-high .478 on-base percentage.

DeChaine, a junior third baseman from Brainerd, Minn., hit .354 with 10 doubles and one triple and led the Mustangs with 15 home runs, 66 RBIs and a .646 slugging percentage. He is Morningside’s all-time leader with 163 career RBIs and ranks second in school history with 33 career home runs.

Hoff, a senior second baseman from Walnut, Calif., hit .349 with 10 doubles, two triples, three home runs and led the Mustangs with 40 walks and 11 stolen bases.

In addition to their four first-team selections, the Mustangs placed Cole Chapin and Richard Mitchell on the All-GPAC Second Team.

Chapin, a senior infielder from Carson, Iowa, hit .361 with 13 doubles, one triple, two home runs and 33 RBIs.

Mitchell, a junior pitcher from Bakersfield, Calif., had a 6-3 record with one shutout and a 3.80 earned run average. He led the Mustangs with 14 starts.

Morningside’s Jordan Barr, Elliot Conover, Lucas Henning, Andrew Kasperbauer and Dylan Mersola were named to the All-GPAC honorable mention list.

Barr, a junior pitcher from South Sioux City, Neb., had a 3-1 record with eight saves and a 2.59 earned run average.

Conover, a sophomore pitcher from Remsen, Iowa, had a 1-1 record with one save and a 3.33 earned run average.

Henning, a senior pitcher from Worthington, Minn., had an 8-3 record with two shutouts and a 3.72 earned run average.

Kasperbauer, a sophomore outfielder from Sioux City, hit .322 with 10 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 25 RBIs.

Mersola, a junior shortstop from Sun Valley, Calif., hit .324 with seven doubles, four home runs and 29 RBIs.

Morningside posted a 35-22 record and finished second in the GPAC standings with an 18-10 league record during the 2017 campaign.
