Marcia Hadjimarkos will perform a solo clavichord recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at Morningside College in the Levitt Gallery in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave.

The recital will include works by J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, Haydn, Bartόk, Slonimsky and Prokofiev. The performance is free and open to the public.

A resident of Burgundy, France, Hadjimarkos is internationally recognized as one of the world’s leading clavichord performers. Her performances have been described as “imaginatively realized, full-blooded, and loving”; “gentle, almost introverted yet brilliantly intelligent”; and “dynamic, free, and powerfully shaped.”

Hadjimarkos attended the University of Iowa, majoring in both piano performance and French literature. Her introduction to early keyboard instruments in Iowa City led to further fortepiano studies at the Paris Conservatory. She plays and teaches on a variety of instruments, from the earliest Florentine prototype to the modern piano, with special interest in the clavichord.
