Math professor receives distinguished teaching award
Chris Spicer, associate professor of mathematics, was recently awarded the Iowa Section Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics from the Mathematical Association of America.
Chris Spicer, associate professor of mathematics at Morningside College, was recently awarded the Iowa Section Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics from the Mathematical Association of America.
The award is presented to a professor who is widely recognized as extraordinarily successful in their teaching, has teaching effectiveness that can be documented, has had influence in their teaching beyond their own institution, and fosters curiosity and generates excitement about mathematics in their students.
As the award recipient, Spicer also will be Iowa’s nominee for a national teaching award from the Mathematical Association of America.
Spicer has been on the faculty at Morningside College since 2009. He is a three-time recipient of Morningside’s Sharon Walker Faculty Excellence Award. He has a doctorate from North Dakota State University.
The Mathematical Association of America is the world’s largest community of mathematicians, students and enthusiasts. The organization works to advance the understanding of mathematics and its impact on the world.
