Caden McDonald is the GPAC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Mustangs’ blowout win against Tabor.

Caden McDonald, a 5-11, 210 lb. senior linebacker from Logan, Iowa, is the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in last Saturday’s 65-14 blowout victory against 10th-ranked Tabor College.

McDonald scored the first touchdown of his Morningside career when he intercepted a Curry Parham pass and returned the theft 50 yards with 13:17 left in the third quarter. McDonald was the Mustangs’ second leading tackler in the contest with two solos and three assists for five total tackles.

McDonald is the Mustangs’ leading tackler through the first two games of the season with six solos and 13 assists for 19 total tackles.

Morningside, ranked fourth nationally in the NAIA, will host Truman State University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, for its first game against a NCAA Division II team since it opened the 2002 season with a 24-21 double overtime victory against Wayne State College.
