Men’s soccer rolls on undefeated in conference play
Mustangs emerge victorious in the final minutes of play against Doane
The Morningside men’s soccer team managed to pull off a victory on Thursday night against Doane, coming up with two big goals in the last seven minutes of play to notch a 3-2 victory.
Morningside’s Okan Goelge put the Mustangs on the board in minute 23 with an unassisted goal. Doane answered at 51:58 when Andreus Abner passed to Brady Fister for a goal, then added another at 70:52 when Jesus Lopez kicked in a goal unassisted.
Goelge would come through for the Mustangs again at 83:15, scoring on a corner kick from Moritz Lusch. Mortiz leads the Mustangs in assists this season with 11, and the goal was Goelge’s fifth, the second highest tally for Morningside behind Austin Lingle.
With the game knotted in the final two mintues, Pedro Tostes kicked in the final goal for the Mustangs. The score was his first of the season.
The win brings the Mustangs to 7-3-1. They remain undefeated in conference play (5-0) and will next take on Jamestown at home on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m.
