Morningside announces changes to commencement ceremony plans
Morningside will hold a combined undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremony on August 8 at Elwood Olsen Stadium.
Sioux City, IA – Morningside will host a combined undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremony on Saturday, August 8 at Elwood Olsen Stadium on the Morningside College campus. As the situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve, the college has made several changes to the commencement ceremony plan to ensure that graduates and their families and friends can participate in and attend the ceremony.
Morningside’s commencement ceremony was originally intended to be held at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Sioux City. In order to ensure that graduates and their families and friends can participate in and attend the ceremony, the college has chosen to hold the ceremony outdoors at Elwood Olsen Stadium. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. No tickets are required, but graduates are asked to RSVP for themselves and their guests. Graduates will line-up at the Tom Rosen Field, west of Elwood Olsen Stadium, to practice social distancing and limit exposure to other individuals. After processing to the stadium, graduates will be seated on the field in chairs spaced six feet apart facing the visitor stands.
All families and guests of graduates are welcome to attend the ceremony. The stadium will be open for seating at 9 a.m. on the day of the ceremony. Individuals and groups are asked to maintain at least six feet of physical distance from other individuals and groups. Masks and other face coverings are required. Disposable masks will be available at the gate. For those not attending the event, a live stream of the ceremony will be available on the Morningside College YouTube channel. The full video of the ceremony will be posted to YouTube after the event.
