Morningside College has announced a $50,000 donation from the MDU Resources Foundation to support capital projects that are part of the college’s “Vision 2020: Transformation II” fundraising campaign.

Morningside President John Reynders said, “I’m grateful to MDU Resources Foundation and other generous donors who have helped get us to 89 percent of our goal. This support is transforming Morningside into one of the Midwest’s best colleges.”

Publicly launched in October 2012, the Vision 2020 campaign has raised more than $44.7 million toward its goal of $50 million by 2019, the 125th anniversary of Morningside’s founding.

The MDU Resources Foundation, based in Bismarck, N.D., is funded by member companies of MDU Resources Group, Inc. Knife River Corporation and Jebro Inc., both with offices in Sioux City, are MDU Resources Group companies.

“We’re proud to support organizations that enhance the quality of life in communities where we have active business interests,” said Ron Hall, vice president and general manager of Knife River Midwest. “We know this donation will have a positive impact on Morningside, its students and the Sioux City area.”

Morningside’s Vision 2020 campaign already has funded a $1.5 million renovation of Eppley Auditorium that was completed in the fall of 2013. Work started in the spring of 2013 on a $13 million project that includes a new classroom building, a new advising center and remodeling the Hickman-Johnson-Furrow Learning Center. Construction is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2014. A planned renovation of the Lillian E. Dimmitt Residence Hall also is part of Morningside’s fundraising campaign.

Other funds raised in the Vision 2020 campaign are dedicated to Morningside’s endowment and the annual scholarship fund.
