Morningside College recently announced the 10th summer season of its Betty Ling Tsang Fine Arts Series. It will hold auditions for roles in “Songs for a New World” and “The Robber Bridegroom” at 2 p.m. April 1 and 2 in the Yockey Family Community Room of the Olsen Student Center, 3609 Peters Ave., on the Morningside campus.

Rehearsals for “Songs for a New World” will begin May 28, and performances will be June 9 and 10. Rehearsals for “The Robber Bridegroom” will begin July 23, and performances will be Aug. 4 and 5. Other performances on the summer schedule include the U.S. Air Force Heartland of America Band on July 4 and the children’s musical “Oh-Oh, A Retelling of Little Red Riding Hood” on July 14 and 15. All of the events are free and open to the public.

Those who audition should come prepared to sing an up-tempo selection of their choosing. Please bring sheet music or CD accompaniment. An accompanist and CD player will be provided. There are both singing and dancing roles so be prepared to do a little moving.  Those with questions may email Randy Peters, director of the Betty Ling Tsang Fine Arts Series, at petersr@morningside.edu.

The fine arts series is named for the late Betty Ling Tsang, a 1940 Morningside College music graduate. It is designed to bring free, quality music and theatre performances to residents of the Sioux City area. Summer performances take place in the Buhler Outdoor Performance Center on the Morningside campus, weather permitting.
