Morningside College alumni, friends, students and parents will have the opportunity to attend a variety of events during “Homecoming Family Fun Weekend 2016” Sept. 30 through Oct. 2.

Morningside College alumni, friends, students and parents will have the opportunity to attend a variety of events during “Homecoming Family Fun Weekend 2016” Sept. 30 through Oct. 2.

Reunion classes honored during Homecoming will be 1956, 1966 and 1991. Other reunion groups recognized during the weekend will include Alpha Omicron Pi, cross country and track, and jazz band. 

On Tuesday, Sept. 27, Morningside students will participate in a talent show and Homecoming coronation at 7 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium. The events are free and open to the public.

The weekend kicks off on Friday, Sept. 30, with a reunion dinner for the classes of 1956 and 1966 at the home of President John and Robin Reynders. Other alumni, reunion groups and friends will gather at Bev’s On The River. The women’s volleyball team will play Grace University at 6 p.m. in the Rosen Verdoorn Sports Center-Allee Gymnasium. Campus tours also are offered at various times during the day.

Events on Saturday, Oct. 1, start with an 8 a.m. “Amazing Mustang Race” at Elwood Olsen Stadium that features alumni, families and students competing in an obstacle course on campus. A pancake feed for all alumni begins at 9 a.m. in Elwood Olsen Stadium. Other events include alumni receptions, the M-Club luncheon and athletic hall of fame awards presentation, and campus tours. The Homecoming football game against Concordia University begins at 1:30 p.m. in Elwood Olsen Stadium.

After the football game, “Taste of Morningside” begins at 4 p.m. under the tents on the west end stadium parking lot. “Taste of Morningside” will feature music by The Massive Brass Attack. There will be food from Sneaky’s, La Juanita’s, Miles Inn, Bob Roe’s Point After, Jerry’s Pizza, Palmer Candy, Dairy Queen, Clyde’s Grill and Pub, and Kylie Q’s BBQ. Tickets for “Taste of Morningside” can be purchased on site.

At 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively, the women’s and men’s soccer teams will host games against Concordia University in Elwood Olsen Stadium.

On Sunday, Oct. 2, a worship service will take place at 10 a.m. in Eppley Auditorium, followed by a marquis brunch in the Olsen Student Center.

Also, alumni artwork will be on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in the art gallery in Eppley Auditorium.
