The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) recently awarded full accreditation to the graduate nursing program offered through Morningside College’s Nylen School of Nursing.

According to Jackie Barber, dean of the Nylen School of Nursing, CCNE awarded accreditation to Morningside’s Master of Science in Nursing degree program after the college submitted an extensive self-assessment of how it meets CCNE’s accreditation standards and a CCNE evaluation team completed a comprehensive on-site evaluation of the graduate nursing program.

“CCNE accreditation is the final step to verify that the graduate nursing program we launched in 2015 engages in effective educational practices and meets the stringent standards established by one of the nation’s leading accrediting organizations for nursing education,” Barber said.

Designed for working nurses who already have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, the Morningside program offers students the option to earn a master’s degree as a family primary care nurse practitioner, a clinical nurse leader or an adult gerontology primary care nurse practitioner. The program delivers coursework online.

During its graduate commencement ceremony held on June 10, Morningside presented diplomas to 20 students who were the first to receive the Master of Science in Nursing degree from the college.
