Morningside College conferred 272 bachelor’s degrees during its 119th spring undergraduate commencement held Saturday, May 13.

Morningside also awarded honorary degrees to Debra Humphreys, vice president of strategic engagement at the Lumina Foundation in Indianapolis, Ind., and Thomas J. Rosen, president and chief executive officer of Rosen’s Diversified Inc. in Fairmont, Minn. In addition to the spring graduates, degrees were conferred upon August and December 2016 graduates, as well as students expected to graduate in August 2017.

Dr. Gregory P. Guelcher, professor of history, received the 2017 Lucille and Charles Wert Faculty Award for excellence in teaching. The award recognizes the faculty member judged by his or her peers to best exemplify the ideals of the teaching profession at Morningside.

Outstanding graduates who were recognized with special awards in their fields of study included: Catherine E. Boyle of Waterloo, Iowa, Provost’s Award in Social Sciences; Joshua H.
