The Morningside College Jazz Band and Jazz Combo and the Eclectix Vocal Jazz Ensemble will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, in Eppley Auditorium.

The Morningside College Jazz Band and Jazz Combo and the Eclectix Vocal Jazz Ensemble will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave.

The concert is free and open to the public. It will feature various styles of jazz, such as swing, Latin, funk, jazz waltz and pop jazz.

The jazz band will perform “Greasin’ the Skids” by Jamey Simmons; “Next Chapter” by Gene Thorne; “Hangin’ Out” by Lennie Niehaus; “Swing State” by James Miley; an original composition by the band and many more. The jazz combo will play pieces such as “Mr. P.C” and “All of Me,” just to name a few.  Eclectix will perform “Jump, Jive and Wail” by Louis Prima with the jazz band and “Better than Anything” arranged by Dave Barduhn with the jazz combo.

Eclectix is an auditioned vocal group under the direction of Tim Watson. It performs vocal jazz styles from traditional swing to pop jazz arrangements.

The Morningside College Jazz Band and Jazz Combo are auditioned student ensembles that perform under the direction of Tony Hutchins. The jazz band won third place at the Eau Claire Jazz Festival in April of this year.
